Device Permissions
- Microphone & Speech Recognition — Used solely for voice-to-text during satellite calls. Audio is processed on-device using Apple Speech Recognition or Google Speech Services. Raw audio is not stored or transmitted to our servers.
- Location — Used to calculate when the ISS and other satellites will pass over your area. Your coordinates are processed locally on-device for pass predictions and are not stored on our servers.
- Notifications — Used to alert you before a visible ISS pass. Notification preferences are stored locally on your device.
Usage Data
We may collect anonymous, non-identifiable usage data to improve the service, including:
- Randomly generated session identifiers
- Question topics (with personal information removed)
- Response times and error rates
We do not collect or store personally identifiable information for analytics. Traffic sources may be categorized (e.g., “social media”) but full URLs are not recorded.
Account Data
If you create an account, we store your email address for authentication and account management purposes only.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Voice input is converted to text on-device and sent to our API to generate a satellite response. We do not retain transcripts beyond the active session.
- Location data is used locally to compute satellite pass predictions. It is not uploaded to any server.
- Anonymous usage data is used solely to improve product quality, fix issues, and understand how features are used.
- Account data is used only for authentication and managing your subscription.
3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — Authentication and account management
- OpenAI — AI-generated satellite responses and text-to-speech
- ElevenLabs — Alternative voice synthesis
- CelesTrak — Public satellite orbital data (TLE)
- Apple / Google Speech Services — On-device speech recognition
We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Account data is stored securely via Supabase with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest.
- Voice and location data are processed locally on your device and are not persisted on our servers.
- App preferences (voice mode, notification settings) are stored locally on your device using on-device storage.
5. Children’s Privacy
Call a Satellite is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
6. Your Rights
- You can revoke microphone, location, and notification permissions at any time in your device’s Settings.
- You can sign out at any time to end your session.
- If you have an account, you may request deletion of your account data by contacting us at the email below.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
